Healthy Weight Loss with Healthy Food: You Are What You Eat!
by
Cullen Leonhardt
Can you remember that famous adage, you are what you eat? And, do you know what else, you truly are what you eat even though you may have believed it was your parents\’ way of getting you to eat your greens. If you munch on a tuna sandwich, the tuna is digested and the amino acids (proteins) from it are used in your body for building muscle and creating new cells! When you ingest a huge amount of junk food, you may observe that your skin color changes and you appear bigger, whereas when you ingest healthy foods, your overall appearance is better. Thus, diet is the first place to begin when you want to lose weight. When your diet is consists of unhealthy foods, doing a lot of exercise won\’t be helpful to you. You need to make sure your diet consists of meals that are nourishing!
The next step is to determine what nutritious foods you should include in your diet plan for weight loss. You want to bring down calories so you will shed off some pounds, but you don\’t want to starve yourself so much that you start stuffing yourself with junk food. You must slowly modify your eating habits ratherthan drastically lowering your calories and food choices. Slowly replace your meals and snacks with newer, healthier choices. The most crucial thing to have in your diet plan is protein. Protein is important for growing cells and building muscle, as well as a few other things. You can get enough of protein in your diet through foods such as meats (chicken, pork, beef), eggs or soy products. The second important food macronutrient you will need is carbohydrates. You must be careful, though, not to overeat carbohydrates because any excess energy created by them only gets stored as fat. Go for foods including whole grain bread and brown rice for your carbs needs. Last, you need to include fats. Believe it or not, your body requires fats in your diet even when you\’re trying to shed off some pounds. Consume foods containing good fat such as nuts and salmon. And remember to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables since your body needs the vitamins and minerals.
Be aware ofKnow which food you should not eat. It goes without saying that you must decrease your intake of the empty calories of junk food, and it\’s smart to only consume lean meats. Don\’t eat processed (or simple) sugars (things like processed bread and pasta), try to aim for complex and whole carbs, such as the brown rice mentioned above. Try to avoid alcohol as much as you can since it will impede your weight loss endeavors.
Now you know what you should and shouldn\’t consume. Examine your diet and come up with some healthy meals that are good for you. If eating too much at one sitting is a problem, eat 5 to 6 smaller meals during the day so that your stomach will shrink and need less food.
