Where To Use Stepping Stones

There are a lot of people out there that have great gardens which could do with a little bit of sprucing up. There are a number of options that these people can choose from. They can get a landscaping company in to do some changes or they can have their own gardener do some things. They could also simply choose to do it themselves. One item that anyone can install is stepping stones.

Whenever someone mentions stepping stones, most people will imagine a set of stones that is used to cross a river or stream. The concept in landscaping is fairly similar, just with the water being replaced with grass. If you have a beautiful manicured lawn you may not want to have people walking all over it in high heeled shoes or soccer spikes as this will do quite a bit of damage. You can use stepping stones to create a pathway for people to follow so that they do not step on your lawn and cause damage.

Of course, you might actually have a small stream in your garden if that is what your first landscaper put in. In this case, you could use the stepping stones as the average person envisions them being used. You can have your very own stepping stone bridge in your garden. This is a lot of fun for children as they can then use the bridge to play all kinds of games. They might end up getting rather wet though, so think this through before you just go and put stepping stones in your garden stream or pond.

Of course, you do not have to use stepping stones for pathways in your garden. There are plenty of other options that you could consider. You could make use of paving bricks or even gravel if that is a look that you would rather have. Stepping stones tend to lend a more information air to a pathway and you will need to make sure that you place them in such a way that ladies in short or tight skirts do not have to take large steps to get from one stone to the next. Not only would they then be more likely to step on the grass and leave holes in your lawn because of their shoes, but, if they do try to use the stones, they may twist their ankles or something like that. Gardens are wonderful places to have a little fun. You can lay pathways wherever you like and have people follow them to a bit of seating or to a particularly lovely bed of flowers. Anything you like. You do have to make sure that you use your brain when you lay pathways though. You do not want people to avoid using the pathways because they are dangerous or badly laid and it is difficult to get from one stone to the next. You can really make a big difference to your garden if you just lay your stepping stones in a logical manner!
